Any other Xanga refugees, feel free to follow me. I was the same name there as here.
Forget that place though.

I feel completely cheated by xanga and have stopped going there entirely. (I even unpinned them from my search bar) :-/

Unpinned, yikes. I still have them up there … I’m not sure why though.

I was on Xanga too. I’m so frustrated with their changes. I went on the other day to see the new Xanga 2.0. So far I wasn’t charged and could get on freely but it’s so confusing and none of those who I was subscribed to updates anymore. I loved Xanga and was on it for over 10 years.

Yeah, that’s about how long I was on there. It obviously wasn’t ready yet. I’m done worrying about it though. So it goes.

yeah I don’t expect the new Xanga to last if they don’t make some critical upgrades

It would be less annoying if it was made more clear that paid users were really paying just to be allowed to alpha test. A little more transparency would go a long way.

I gave up on 2.0. It is so similar to WP that I might as well just be on WP exclusively. There are a lot people jumping ship. I’ll follow you here!

Thanks! Yeah my impression is that they haven’t implemented the features they intend to make it feel more like the old Xanga, but knowing how things go it might just never happen.

I was on Xanga also. I received a free year’s membership. It’s so featureless right now that it’s stifling. ‘edlives’ posted today with an update but it feels like there’s no one there.
I like WP, but it doesn’t quite have that walled garden feel, either your blog is private,or open to only a few people via invite or password or public. so I still loiter about in livejournal/dreamwidth too. :) Feel free to follow me here if you’d like.

There were a couple years when I went on Xanga hiatus and used LJ instead. None of the communities I liked are active anymore, and I don’t feel like finding new ones though.
Yeah WP’s implementation of privacy is a little rough. There are a few people on here that I keep missing posts of because something doesn’t work right. I don’t ever plan on making this blog that kind of private though, so it doesn’t bug me too badly.
Anyway, it’s nice to meet you! Thanks for the follow.

Thats really the only issue I have with WP. You have to invite the reader to view it and then as long as they’re logged in to WP they should be able to— anyhow yes, a bit rough. I still have friends at Livejournal, so I log in to see what peeps are up to. But I do have a lot of fun exploring all the options and layers of wp.com. Good to meet you too.

Sigh. welcome to wordpress though. We gotta band together you know. haha.
I’m enjoying wordpress alot so far.

I wonder how long will take them to move beyond operating at a far lower level than “free” WordPress. It sure looks like they bit off more than they could chew with the transition.
September 22, 2013 at 11:16 pm |
I think that’s a big part of it. Originally they were just going to close down, then everyone said NOOO! So they seem to have sort ofg scrambled with a ‘k now what do we do?’ EVERYone’s doing wordpress -i have a wp blog on PsychCentral.net with lots of features ability to chose themes followed replies etc , so it IS doable but they didnt give themselves enough time. They should have started the new platform and tried to get everything ready before the migration. But, their current contract was up so they rushed. This is that end result.
September 23, 2013 at 12:48 am
The move to WP does certainly looks more like an afterthought rather than a well thought out intended plan. Since they knew the date their lease would expire, you would think they would have either planned the transition better, or just announced a close down and leave out this “pledge drive” last minute attempt.
Ideally, they should have done as you mentioned with leaving the old platform up until they could get the WP platform to a decent level of operation. Now it looks rushed and unfinished – making their $48/yr blogging fee very hard if not impossible to justify.
Not what you would expect from a company that’s been around since the late 90’s with experience behind them.

I go there each day and its sooo painful and sad to trudge through. :/
